PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, launched in December 2018, addresses the financial needs of Indian farmers by providing direct financial benefits of Rs 6,000 per year.
This assistance is delivered to the bank accounts of farmer families across the country in three equal installments every four months through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
Originally aimed at small and marginal farmers with less than two hectares of land, the policy has been expanded to include all landholding farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare implements the Central Sector Scheme, which is entirely funded by the Government of India. The main goal is to assist farmers in achieving crop health and yield inputs and provide proportionate farm revenue.
Additionally, this initiative aims to keep the farmers away from the clutches of moneylenders for specific expenses and maintain the continuity of their agricultural activity. The PM-Kisan mobile app, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, makes information related to the scheme more accessible. To ensure integrity, the system requires annual physical verification of 5% of the beneficiaries.
